How to use a puppy growth chart
The chart is most useful as a trend: weigh your puppy every week or two on the same scale and check that the dots roughly follow a curve. The growth-standards research by Salt and colleagues found that growth could be described by size category rather than needing a curve per breed, and that crossing percentile lines is what flags a problem, not sitting high or low in the band.
A puppy that drops sharply across the band, stops gaining, or gains much faster than the curve should see a vet. Your vet will also check body condition, which the scale can't tell you.
Before 8 weeks, puppies are weighed daily. VCA advises using a kitchen or postal scale, looking for a steady daily gain, and taking any puppy that fails to gain or starts losing weight to the vet promptly.

How much should my puppy weigh?
It depends on the adult size. Enter the expected adult weight above to see the typical weight and normal range at each age for that size of dog.
When do puppies grow the most?
In the first months. In the Salt et al. data, puppies of all sizes gain fastest before about 6 months, and small breeds level off much earlier than large and giant breeds.
Is my puppy too small if it is below the median?
Not by itself. Half of healthy puppies are below the median. Steady growth along a curve matters more than where in the band a puppy sits; ask your vet if growth stalls or drops.

From the open dataset published with Salt et al. (2017), "Growth standard charts for monitoring bodyweight in dogs of different sizes", PLOS ONE. We summarised it into median and 10th–90th percentile curves for six adult-size groups.
